Rotation Moves the Loss to the Region

Spa signed a rotation — it hosts four of the next six seasons (2026, 2027, 2029, 2031) and drops off in 2028 and 2030 — to get a longer, less stressful deal with Walloon government backing. The circuit's risk falls in the fallow years (no exorbitant fee to pay), but the region's does not: a Deloitte-commissioned study puts the race at €41.8m of net benefit for Wallonia and €55.1m for Belgium, money hotels, restaurants and seasonal jobs simply don't see in a year without a race. On track, Antonelli won from pole in a race Spa decided on the second VSC.

How it was won

Antonelli led from pole; Verstappen briefly led through Eau Rouge after a better run, but Antonelli used the slipstream and Mercedes straight-line speed to retake it on the Kemmel Straight, with Leclerc also passing Verstappen. Lap-1 disaster for Russell: he lost electrical deployment after La Source, was passed by both Ferraris, and collided with Hamilton at Les Combes — Hamilton penalised five seconds, and Russell retired on the spot, bringing the safety car. After the lap-5 restart Verstappen passed Leclerc for P2. A second VSC around lap 20 let Ferrari pit both cars, and Leclerc's cheaper stop put him ahead of Antonelli. Antonelli hunted Leclerc down and, on lap 34, used the Kemmel Straight to re-pass for the lead, holding it to the flag by 1.952s. Hamilton's pit release made low-speed contact with a mechanic (premature release, no injury); Hadjar recovered from P21 to P6.
