The Fee Structure, Not the Fee Level
Silverstone nearly lost the British Grand Prix not because the fee was too high in absolute terms, but because it was a compounding escalator: a 5% annual increase that turned £11.5m (2010) into £16.2m (2017) and was on track for £25m by 2026, against a single-event revenue base. The fix that saved it was structural, not financial — replace the escalator with a flat fee, then build a 360-day estate around the race. On track, Charles Leclerc won Ferrari's 250th World Championship race in front of the biggest crowd in F1 history.

Leclerc made the better start from P2 to lead, with Hamilton also passing Antonelli, so Ferrari ran 1–2 through the opening corners. Antonelli passed Hamilton at Copse on lap 11 and closed on Leclerc, but a broken left-front wheel shield (from a kerb strike at Copse) forced two extra stops and wrecked his race — he crossed the line ninth and dropped to P15 after a track-limits penalty. Russell took a slow puncture (lap 35) and Hamilton served a five-second penalty, so Leclerc built a ~20-second cushion. Lap 48: Verstappen spun into the gravel at Stowe, bringing the safety car. Leclerc and Hamilton pitted for softs, Russell stayed out on used mediums and moved to P2 — and the race finished behind the safety car after a software error cancelled the intended final-lap restart. Leclerc's first win at Silverstone gave Ferrari its 250th World Championship race victory; Hamilton kept third after a post-race reprimand for a yellow-flag infringement.
