The Owner-Promoter Who Pays His Own Fee
At Spielberg, the promoter owns the circuit, and the fee is an internal transfer inside a drinks-and-entertainment empire. Projekt Spielberg — a Red Bull company — pays an estimated ~$25m a year to host with no state subsidy, on a contract extended to 2041, while Red Bull reinvests in the venue. It is the third distinct host model of the season: not Melbourne's state subsidy, nor Miami's private franchise, but a brand-owned resort whose real return is exposure and estate value. On track, George Russell converted pole and held off a charging Verstappen by 1.611s.

Russell converted pole, but Verstappen (from P5) was the aggressor — passing Antonelli and Leclerc early and trading the lead with Russell, who still led 57 of the 71 laps. Cadillac suffered a double brake-overheating retirement within the first five laps (Bottas lap 2, Perez lap 4), and Sainz's electrical stop triggered the first VSC and reshuffled the stop cycles. Ferrari committed to three stops for Hamilton and Leclerc to offset limited race pace; both fell out of podium contention, while Russell, Verstappen and Antonelli ran two-stoppers. Red Bull left Verstappen out five laps longer for a tyre-age advantage into the final stint; he closed on Russell but could not pass — the closest finish of the mid-season run (1.611s). Antonelli took P3 and the fastest lap; Russell's second win of 2026 returned him to second in the championship.
