The One Venue That Sets Its Own Price

Monaco paid nothing to host Formula 1 for decades, still pays the least of any round, and just had its fee doubled without losing its slot — because its leverage is scarcity of legend, not payment capacity. Every other host, this season, is buying presence (China), carrying risk (Melbourne, Canada) or chasing a franchise (Miami). Monaco is the reverse: the sport needs Monaco more than Monaco needs the fee. On track, Kimi Antonelli's Grand Slam came in a race of attrition whose real story was a procedural fight over third place.

How it was won

Antonelli led every lap from pole for a Grand Slam, in a race defined by attrition: Verstappen retired on lap 1 with a power-unit problem from P2, and Bottas, Bearman, Norris, Stroll, Leclerc and Sainz all stopped. Stroll's crash at the final corner brought the safety car with 22 laps left; on the restart Leclerc crashed at the same corner, prompting a red flag while officials inspected the track surface. After the red-flag standing restart Sainz was involved in two collisions (with Hulkenberg, then Colapinto) and retired; Antonelli again led away from Hamilton. Antonelli won from Hamilton; Gasly crossed the line third but two five-second pit-lane penalties dropped him to P7, promoting Hadjar to his first podium of the season (P3). Perez's ten-second post-race penalty (out of position at the restart) demoted him from P10 to P15, handing Aston Martin's first point of the year to Alonso.
