The Race Three Governments Pay For
Where Miami's race is a private franchise and Melbourne's is a state subsidy, Canada's is funded by three levels of government — Ottawa, Quebec and Tourisme Montréal — against a fee of roughly $25–29m a year and a tourism-multiplier argument (hotel occupancy above 95%, tens of millions in visitor spend). On track, Kimi Antonelli won a fourth consecutive race in changeable weather, while polesitter George Russell's own race ended in a battery failure — the season's first crack in Mercedes' invulnerability.

Rain before the start split the tyre choices (McLaren/Audi/Cadillac/Sainz on intermediates; Racing Bulls and Colapinto on mediums; the rest on softs). Norris jumped to the lead at turn 1 — then McLaren's intermediate call proved wrong and both cars pitted at the end of lap 1, dropping them to the rear. Antonelli led, with the Mercedes pair swapping places (Russell led laps 6–21); Hamilton ran with power issues and Verstappen moved to P3. Lap 30: polesitter Russell retired from the lead with a battery failure, triggering a VSC. Most of the field pitted, Antonelli rejoining on mediums ~4.6s clear of Verstappen. Norris's gearbox failed on lap 38 and Perez retired a lap later; further VSCs (laps 52–53) cleared debris without changing the order. Hamilton passed Verstappen for P2 on lap 62. Antonelli won — his fourth consecutive victory — from Hamilton and Verstappen.
