The Private Promoter's Franchise
Miami is the anti-Melbourne. Where the Australian opener is a publicly-subsidised street race in a park, the United States round is a privately-financed franchise bolted onto an NFL stadium — promoted by South Florida Motorsports (Stephen Ross's Hard Rock Stadium group) on a contract to 2041, with roughly $1.5bn of regional economic impact booked in four years and no taxpayer standing behind the fee. On track, Kimi Antonelli won a third consecutive race in the season's most chaotic afternoon so far.

Turn-1 chaos: polesitter Antonelli and Verstappen both locked up; Verstappen made contact with Leclerc and spun to the back, while Leclerc emerged ahead of Antonelli and the two McLarens. Leclerc led early, then Antonelli, Norris and Leclerc swapped the lead repeatedly. A multi-car incident (Hadjar into the wall at the chicane; Lawson hitting anti-stall and colliding with Gasly, who was pitched into the barriers) brought the safety car on lap 6. Verstappen pitted under that safety car for hards, falling to P16 but committing to a long run to the flag — he briefly led before falling back on worn tyres. After the restart Antonelli and Norris traded places; Antonelli took the lead for good on lap 29 once the stops were done, and held off Norris by 3.264s for a third straight win. Leclerc's charge ended in a final-lap spin and wall contact; he was passed by Russell and Verstappen, then hit with a 20-second post-race penalty (repeatedly leaving the track in a damaged car) dropping him from P6 to P8.
